Day 2 of the lockdown

I’ve decided I’ll start keeping a blog of the experience we’re going through. I probably won’t actually write every day, but only when something strikes me or the situation changes.

I’m actually writing this at the beginning of day 3, but I’ll be describing what happened on day 2–that is the second day after the county’s health order was promulgated.

We ended up having another letter to mail so we walked back over to Piazza. (The mailbox is outside the market.) We had no plans for going in. It looked slightly less crowded, but we were also somewhat earlier.

A neighbor who read my piece about going to Piazza told me he sent an email to Piazza saying they should give priority to seniors for the first hour. They posted on their Facebook page and basically said “not necessary”.

Safeway is already letting seniors in early, but the problem is the shelves are bare until deliveries come in later in the day. Anyway, aren’t senior supposed to stay home anyway?

We don’t need groceries yet, so we’ll figure out what to do when the time comes.

A supervisor in San Mateo county is proposing an emergency law that forbids anyone from buying more than 4 of anything. I’m not sure 4 is the right number, but something like that is needed. Hoarding is one of the most unseemly aspect of people’s behavior in this situation.

On the way home, I noted some guy was riding a lawn-mowing tractor around the local recreational area (soccer and baseball fields). I didn’t know lawn mowing was an essential job, but he was by himself so I guess it’s safe.
