If you ever watch TV biographies of entertainment personalities, you may have been struck by how often their lives end badly.
I can’t think of anyone for whom that is more true than Phil Spector. He was one of the best and most well-known record producers in the 50s and 60s. Then musical styles moved on. In 2003 he was arrested for killing a woman in his home. (The apparent moral of that story is: Don’t play with guns when you’re drunk.)
He spent the rest of his life in prison and died yesterday (Jan. 16, 2021) from Covid-19.
But his music lives on. Just two examples of famous hits he produced.
