At VMWare I worked for a team that tested the "monitor," short for "Virtual Machine Monitor," sometimes referred to as the "Hypervisor." (See Virtual Machines for additional details.) My job was very similar to what I did for VERITAS, I was not in a QA organization. Our team was actually directly in the product enginerring group. VMWare, of course, had a QA organization, but they focused on testing individual products. We, on the other hand, tested the monitor, as I said, which was a component that was common to all our products.
Actually VMWare had two types of products: those that actually create virtual machines, and those that monitor them. It is only the former category that contains the monitor component that our team was testing.
I had two desktop computers in my office: One ran Microsoft Windows and one ran ESX, a VMWare product that runs directly on the hardware without running under some other operating system. I also had a Macintosh laptop that I mostly used for giving presentations, or when travelling.
