Conclusion

Over the course of my lifetime, and over the course of my professional career in the computer industry, I’ve seen computers shrink in size and price from room-fillers to something I can slip into my pocket.

I’ve seen the personal computer industry grow from its very beginnings to the present time where I believe a majority of American homes have a PC.

I’ve seen the user interface grow from JCL (Job Control Language) to interactive commands, to graphical user interfaces.  And I’ve seen those interfaces grow from primitive black and white to complex multiprogrammed color displays.

Much of my life and much of my career has been spent in Silicon Valley, the global center for technological innovation.  I think it must be like living in Renaissance Italy.

And neither my life nor career is yet at an end.  The rate of change is accelerating.  I wonder what will happen next.
